I overheard Tim telling a friend that he must be taking too long on the renovation process, because I've gotten impatient and already started the decorating. I admit I get very anxious and eager when it comes to living in a space that is visually uninspiring, so even if I know things will change in the future I like to go ahead and fix things up. I really feel like this helps me survive creatively from day to day.
That brings me to one of our big accomplishments from this weekend. In my mind, it feels right to start at the front of the space and work our way back. So naturally I wanted to focus on getting the entry way not only cleaned up, but dressed up as well! :)
BEFORE
Now, generally I don't go super girly in my own space. But florals are very in right now and I've been telling Tim that I am going to have to bring in some feminine touches to balance all the masculine finishes around here. I had some wallpaper that I found for a great price a while back and I've been waiting for the right time to use it. This weekend was the right time!
Wallpaper up. . .
I like this look for a number of reasons:
1. It brings a feminine touch to the space.
2. The pattern has a orangey color that ties in with the brick wall beside it.
3. The pattern draws your eye up to the tall ceilings- making our space feel bigger.
4. Seeing the brick, floral, and wood lathe wall all together brings a ton of texture into the space.
5. This wallpaper is made in way that it can be easily removed in full stripes so if I get tired of it or want to use it in a different space it's no problem!
5. Flowers make me happy. . . I prefer the real ones but at least I can't kill these! :) haha
I do wish the colors in the wall paper were just a little different. There's a brownish color that I'm not a fan of and I would have really liked to have a few more bright greens and purples. Humm. . . maybe I'll get my paintbrush out later and add some of my favorite colors.
Now I think some people get scared when they see a pattern like this and think it is just too much. But I always try to remember that I will be placing furniture, art, and decor along and on the wall that will break the pattern up and keep it from feeling too overwhelming. You can see a little set-up I added below.
Furniture/Decor in place. . .
Tim thinks it's weird that I put a chest of drawers in our entry way, but I think it's totally ok to place a piece like this in almost any room in your home. My mom spotted this treasure at a garage sale for me. $25 for some much needed storage and I love it's modern style! Thanks Mom! :)
Styling little vignettes is one of my favorite things to do design wise. I had fun spending time putting this set up together even though I probably should have spent that time finding/designing a bathroom sink. :)
Isn't that bookmark cool? I love the saying on it! I picked that up from a local print shop, Letter Press of Tulsa, located downtown. I stumbled across their store when we were hanging out at Tulsa Tough this weekend. I was thrilled to learn about their story and how they use a print press from 1800's to make all of their amazing art. I definitely encourage you to check them out, in person if you can but online works too! :)
Some of LPOT's work. . .
So, anyway that is what we did with part of our weekend and I feel like it was time well spent. We still have a few things to add to the area, but it feels like this place is becoming a little more "us" everyday! :)
'Til tomorrow!

so inspiring!!
ReplyDeleteAhh, thanks Ingrid! So happy you like it! :)
DeleteI like it - it really looks like you! Funny, when you started saying about not loving some of the colors in the wallpaper and wanting some more of other colors my first thought was - add some paint! Then in your next sentence you said just that :) I'll have to agree with you on the dresser in the entry too (sorry Tim) I think dressers can go anywhere you want to put them. I think your entry looks GREAT!
ReplyDeleteHey Friend! I guess great minds think alike! :) I'll add that paint at some point! Thanks for the comments Jill!
DeleteI love it!! Can't wait to see it in person. Love ya : )
ReplyDeleteThanks Mama! See you soon! :)
DeleteI love so much of your work, but I think so far this has been one of my favorites for your home. It blends so well with the brick and wood wall, plus it is great for putting a smile on your face as you head out to face the world.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you like it! :) The flowers really do bring a happy energy to the space! Have a great day!
DeleteThis looks FANTASTIC! I can't wait to own a space (okay, it will be several years) that I can put up wallpaper in. And I'm totally with you on the dresser in the entryway. We have a small one that has proved to be incredibly useful! In the winter, I put our gloves and scarves in it, and in the summer I rotate those out and put our dog's leash and harness, some plastic bags, swimsuits and bug spray! It's so easy to grab what you need as you head out the door! With a piece this size I bet you wouldn't even have to rotate out your stuff seasonally.
ReplyDeleteHey Staci! You know, you could try hanging the wallpaper with double stick tape or something temporary if you've found a wallpaper you love and don't want to wait until you own a place. It may not look completely smooth, but if you get one with a pattern it would be hard to tell. Thanks so much for your sweet comments!
Deletelove it! every bit of it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jill! Sending you an e-mail today!
DeleteAbsolutely love it! And Love your theater seats! I actually snagged me a set a few weeks ago that need a little TLC, hopefully they turn out looking as good as yours!
ReplyDeleteWOW! I love love LOVE this wall paper! It looks so gorgeous but it's also fun, bright, and happy! Very you! I am digging the dresser! I love mid-century furniture and I think dressers by the door = awesome....I had one by my front door for a while. Perfect storage! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I love that! Floral wallpaper makes me so happy :D So beautiful and cheery!
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe you found that piece for $25! Did you have to refinish it at all? Drooling over here!
